KS2 classes explore the 5 ways to mental well-being
KS2 pupils have connected to the SCARF team for virtual lessons focused on their mental well-being and how to ensure they keep mentally healthy.
SCARF – Safety, Caring, Achievement, Resilience, Friendship – is a whole-school approach to promoting behaviour, safety, achievement and wellbeing in our pupils. At a time when life is not how we normally know it, this is of paramount importance.
Our KS2 classes (Year 3 – 6) explored the 5 Ways To Mental Well-being
- Be Mindful
- Connect
- Be Active
- Get Creative
- Give To Others
Discussing their ideas for each, pupils devised their own strategies to support their own mental well-being.
One of the mindfulness strategies that we learnt was the 5, 4, 3, 2, 1 Technique helping pupils to restore calm in themselves and be present in the now. The simple technique involves being calm and thinking about:
- 5 things that you can see
- 4 things that you can hear
- 3 things that you can touch
- 2 things that you can smell
- 1 thing that you can taste
After the sessions, pupils reflected on their learning and created their own ‘Five Ways To Well-being’ wheel:
