Remembrance Day – Lest We Forget
In our learning today, we focused on Remembrance and the sacrifices of others in wars past and present. We also reflected on the sacrifices today of those who are helping us through the pandemic. Here are some Year 6 reflections and art work linked to their learning.
Remembrance Day by Charlotte
The sacrifices that people made in the war were that they left their family to go and help the war effort. They also left their jobs to go to war and some sacrificed their lives.
Remembrance poem by Charlotte
Poppy, Poppy what do you see? A sea of red poppies, butterflies and birds flying
Poppy, Poppy what do you hear? Birds chirping then silence
Poppy, poppy what do you feel? Sad for all the soldiers but very proud,
Poppy, Poppy what do you say? We have to remember all the soldiers and animals that gave up their life for our freedom,
We have to be proud and show respect for everything they did for us.

Today, sacrifices that the helpers have made while fighting coronavirus are that doctors and nurses have been working longer hours and being in contact with people who have the virus which means they are putting themselves in danger of catching it. Key workers have been sacrificing time at home to work extra hours to work in shops or as lorry drivers for example to make sure we all have food and supplies over lockdown and who help deliver food or medicine to people who are shielding or isolating. Poppies by Poppy
Oscar’s Poem
Poppy, poppy what do you see? Thousands of souls flying up like a bee.
Poppy, poppy what do you hear? The caw of a crow, the families full of fear.
Poppy, poppy what do you feel? The sadness of soldiers hoping this isn’t their last meal.
Poppy, poppy what do you say? Show respect to the helpers who were working all day.
My Poem by Gibril
Poppy, Poppy what do you see? Rows of fallen soldiers asleep under me.
Poppy, Poppy what do you hear? Birds singing in the distance for the men who are near.
Poppy, Poppy what do you feel?
Sadness and gratitude for those who were real.
Poppy, Poppy what do you say? Give thanks to all on Remembrance Day.
Aimal’s poem
Poppy, poppy what do you see? Poppies slowly growing in the battlefields.
Poppy, poppy what do you hear? Quietness, for soldiers who sacrifices, full of braveness, yet so full of fright.
Poppy, poppy what do you feel? Happy and glad, for the men who fought for their people, the battle was terrifying.
Poppy, poppy what do you say? Be thankful for those soldiers, remember them on the 11 November, they fought for their country and their calmness, show respect for this day!
