The Rollright Stones

Rollright Stones measuring

This term Silver Birch and Ash classes visited The Rollright Stones, an ancient stone circle, as part of their Stone Age topic.

The day was thoroughly cold and wet but we did not let this dampen our spirits. We met a local archaeologist who told us lots of interesting facts about how the stones were moved, how they were set in a perfect circle as well as what they may have been used for. One of the highlights of the day was moving large stones ourselves on sledge and rollers, just as the Stone Age people would have done thousands of years ago.   One of the interesting facts about the stones is that you can never count them and get the same amount twice. We tested this out and it was indeed true. We wonder how many there are!
