OFSTED: GOOD

Ofsted Inspectors find that Dashwood is a GOOD school

Over the last few years, the staff and pupils have worked tirelessly to improve and develop the school into the wonderful learning space it is today. This year, we have built a community that supports every aspect of life for a pupil and not just the education whilst in school. We are delighted to announce that following our inspection on 6th June 2023, we continue to remain a GOOD school.

As the school was inspected under a two day system, a letter is produced outlining our key strengths and areas of improvement. We are so proud of the letter and feel it reflects all the hard work we have put in to raise expectations, work with the community and provide our pupils with an excellent standard of education. The letter demonstrates how the teaching and learning enables pupils to make good progress from their starting points, which is reflected in the excellent results the pupils achieve in their end of Key Stage assessments. Our areas of improvement were things, we as a school, had already identified and have started to work on. Pupils are really enjoying our new ‘challenge led’ curriculum which encourages curiosity and creativity in all subjects.

We are full of pride that the inspector saw Dashwood for the amazing place it is. Here’s what their report had to say about our pupils:

Pupils enjoy coming to school. They describe feeling like they can be themselves here. Pupils are taught about the diversity of their local community. They are eager to talk about what makes each of their friends unique, and say that pupils being different ‘makes life more interesting’.

Pupils are proud of their leadership roles and accomplishments. As part of the ‘aspiration council’, pupils identified the need for a local foodbank and helped to set one up in school. Pupils are celebrated in the school newspaper, the ‘Dashwood News’. This strengthens the school’s role within the community. Leaders consult with stakeholders when planning activities. They make sure that all pupils can access the wide range of clubs and activities on offer.
OFSTED Report (June 2023)

Speaking of our academic success, the report was full of praise for our pupils, teaching staff and leadership team.

We also understand how important safety and community are to creating a prosperous school environment and we are proud to say that this is central to our school ethos at Dashwood. Pupils and parents shared that they are overwhelmingly happy with the school. They love the opportunities given to pupils, especially leadership roles of responsibility, to build on their life experiences and try new and exciting things. The letter states that:

'Pupils’ wider development is a strength of the school.'

'Pupils are proud of their leadership roles and accomplishments.'

'Pupils enjoy coming to school. They describe feeling like they can be themselves here. Pupils are taught about the diversity of their local community. They are eager to talk about what makes each of their friends unique, and say that pupils being different ‘makes life more interesting’.
